Matt Clark:
Past, Present, and Future

Oct. 15 - Nov. 24
Matt Clark - Past Present Future

Undergoing continuous change, we are nothing more than a sum of stops, starts, pauses, beginnings, and endings. My current work parallels this notion. Through repeated movements across the painted surface, a history is created capturing intention, chance, reaction, and decision. The subject therefore becomes the activity, the pursuit and the exploitation of the medium and its possibilities. Times available for viewing: Tuesday – Friday from 10 am – 5 pm. Appoinments on the weekends please call 817-692-3228

The physical world is made of physical elements; therefore, the spiritual world must be comprised of spiritual elements.  Bridges exist as evidence of the parallels between these dimensions, such as thought existing simultaneously as physical and spiritual. The spiritual world is a place where psychological responses are the essence of matter, like an alternate reality or a parallel universe where the periodic table is replaced with  thoughts and emotions. Collective mental processes are translated into symbolic depictions using color, symbolism, line, and shape, by replacing the non-physical fundamental matter.Based on my emotional perceptions, I am communicating intangible experiences through the symbolism of color and intensity of mark making... The G.R.A.S. is
Always Greener

July 10 – August 22
The G.R.A.S is Always Greener

This installation looks at both the invented history of Grip River and my own personal history. I find that my memories from childhood have been taken out of context as I have grown into an adult. I now find myself looking at the games I played and fantastic worlds that I created in my youth with the eye of an amateur archaeologist. Drawing on social anthropology, the role of the museum, academia, and art I try to recreate my past and give you the viewer a guided tour. -Written by Ian O'Brien

Acumen, an exhibition of new works by Sevan Melikyan, Jeff Mueller, and Shawn Wallis, will be on display June 20-August 15 at William Campbell Contemporary Art. An opening reception will be held June 20, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Acumen features art by three artists interested in reducing formal and contextual elements to their purest states. Whether abstract or representational, the works are process-driven, shrewd examinations of the subject matter. Melikyan seeks purity by reducing complex compositions to elemental color relationships, while Wallis focuses on one color and its relationship to the canvas. Mueller monumentalizes commonplace graffiti by placing it in a different context, focusing largely on the colors and lines inherent in the letters...(Read More)

Sirajski is a Serbian artist who uses his artwork to confront anxious dreams, perceived demons, folklore, religious dogma, and history. His work has been described as surrealist and as fantastical realism, and yet each of these is an incomplete description. In a combination of styles reminiscent of the fantastical works of Hieronymus Bosch and the automatic paintings of Joan Miro, Sirajski creates complicated depictions which require close scrutiny...
