The mission of The Gallery is the presentation of contemporary art in a critical and creative context. This includes supporting the creation of new art by regional, national and international artists through residencies, exhibitions, and other programming forums. We try to schedule thought provoking exhibitions that showcase a wide variety of different media and conceptual bases to engage both the general public and the university community. As a not-for-profit university space, we can present a comprehensive representation of contemporary art without having to base curatorial decisions on issues of censorship or marketability. We offer free tours of exhibitions by appointment as well as free lectures, receptions and gallery talks that are open to the public. Community and school groups have used the space for meetings, mini-exhibitions and receptions, which we are happy to accommodate, based on availability. You might not always like or understand the art you see here, but you definitely will go away remembering it and thinking about it.

ARLINGTON–The Gallery at The University of Texas at Arlington is presenting its tenth “Faculty Biennial,” a showcase for recent work created by the Department of Art and Art History faculty. In this exhibit, scheduled every two years, the art professors show what they’ve accomplished in their creative endeavors outside the classroom.
The 2009 exhibition, which runs through November 14, features the work of over 40 faculty members in a wide variety of media including painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, glass, video, digital imaging and visual communication. In addition, the department's art historians will have examples of recent publications on display. In association with the exhibition, several of the artists will discuss their work in a series of noontime gallery talks on selected Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the exhibition.
The dates for the talks are Wednesdays, October 21 and November 4, and Thursdays, October 29 and November 12.
The exhibit and all events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon until 5 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is in the Fine Arts Building, room 169, 502 S. Cooper Street, Arlington, TX.
